On 28 February 1699 Willem Adriaan van der Stel signed the deed to grant Jean Le Roux land to farm on in the Paarl area. Naming the farm Groot Parys, after his beloved country of birth, this was the start of a life-long legacy and a love affair with wines that today still strongly exists in the hands of the present owner.
